World Cup: Spain Fires Coach a Day to the Start of the World Cup

The Spanish FA today announced the sack of its head coach Julen Lopetegui. The sack of the Spanish coach was a direct outcome of Real Madrid’s announcement yesterday.

Real Madrid had yesterday named Lopetegui as their new manager. The announcement which took the Spanish FA by surprise was seen as improper. Julen Lopetegui had only three weeks ago, signed a 3-year deal with the Spanish FA.

By signing Julen Lopetegui, Real Madrid was going to pay the €2 million buy out clause of his contract with the Spanish FA. However, with his sack, Real Madrid will no longer be paying this as he will now be going as a free-agent.
