Okorocha Gets Bail, Leaves EFCC Custody

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered a former governor of Imo State and presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Rochas Okorocha, to remain in custody until he perfects the conditions attached to his bail. Justice Inyang Ekwo made the order after admitting the ex-governor to bail in the sum of N500m and one surety in the like sum. Admitted also to bail by Justice Inyang Ekwo is his co-accused, Anyim Nyerere, who was sighted in a 17-count that majored on money laundering. For Nyerere, the court ordered that he should continue on the administrative bail granted him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for exhibiting good conduct while on bail. EFCC Operatives Storm Okorocha’s Abuja Residence, Arrest Him

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, arrested the former Imo State governor and presidential aspirant, Rochas Okorocha, at his Maitama, Abuja residence. Though the security operatives met stiff resistance from the supporters of the former governor, tear gas was fired to disperse them to effect the arrest. The anti-graft agency said it laid siege to the home of the former governor to arrest him, accusing him of jumping bail granted him by the commission. EFCC’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement, said the move followed the refusal of Okorocha to honour invitations after jumping the administrative bail earlier granted him by the commission. The Imo State Police Command, on Monday, said former governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, has been released. Spokesperson for the state police command, Orlando Ikeokwu, made this known while featuring on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ programme monitored by newsmen. Following the news making the rounds regarding the arrest of former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha by operatives of the EFCC, the commission has come out to official deny the claim. While responding to questions from journalists, Tony Orilade, EFCC’s acting Head, Media and Publicity described the news as fake. Breaking News: Rochas Okorocha and Wife Arrested by EFCC Operatives

Barely 24 hours after vacating office as the governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha and his wife have both been arrested by men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Officers from the commission raided the former governor's house and effected the arrest. Reports have it that men from the commission have also sealed the former governor's university at Ogboko, Eastern Palm University. During his handover, Rochas had made some statements that indicated he might be aware of some plans to arrest him. He had warned that any attempt to silence him will see him fighting back.
