COVID-19 Vaccination Commences in Abuja Friday

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are expected to receive COVID-19 vaccine doses on Saturday. Nigeria on Tuesday took delivery of 3.9 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, the first batch of the 16 million expected through the World Health Organisation-led COVAX facility. The government is expecting 129 million vaccine doses to vaccinate 70 per cent of its population within two years. The consignment was received through the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja aboard Emirates Airlines. The vaccine will be administered in two doses. Opinion: Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s Response to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

Breaking News: Osinbajo Sacks DSS Chief

The Nigerian Acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has dismissed the Director General of the DSS. Mr. Lawal Musa Daura. The news was broken a few moments ago by the Senior Special Assistant-Media and Publicity to the Vice President Laolu Akande. In a tweet posted this afternoon, Mr Akande said "AgP Yemi Osinbajo has directed the termination of the appointment of the DG of the DSS, Mr. Lawal Musa Daura. Mr. Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice." This may not be unconnected with the incident this morning where the DSS laid siege on the National Assembly complex, preventing honorable members and their staff from gaining access. We shall provide more details as they emerge.
