He disclosed this on Thursday in Benin, during a workshop for senior civil and public servants on the state government’s code of ethics. This follows the naira redesign policy which has caused a cash crunch as Nigerians struggle to get cash notes from banking halls and automated teller machines, ATMs. Obaseki while speaking at the event said the state government would do away with cash transactions for a more transparent cashless mode of transactions. CBN’s Naira Redesign Political – Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has dismissed the proposed plot by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to redesign naira notes as political. Obaseki described the move as a plan by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to woo voters ahead of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria. This was contained in a statement issued by Crusoe Osagie, the governor’s media aide, while commissioning the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Women Campaign Council at the Presidential Campaign Secretariat in Benin City. Obaseki lampooned the Federal Government for the plan, noting that the redesign of the naira should not be the focus at this point as Nigerians are suffering from hunger, poverty, and economic hardship. I Will Not Accept Any Opposition In Edo PDP – Obaseki

He said this at an expanded meeting of party leaders in Benin, on Monday. Obaseki said, “There are people who have continued to come and feed you with lies. Breaking: Supreme Court Rejects APC’s Suit Challenging Obaseki’s Qualification

The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the academic qualification of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki. A panel of the apex court, in a judgment on Friday evening, held that the appellants – APC and one of its chieftains, Edobor Williams – failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt. The court added that the appellants failed woefully to prove their case as they did not provide any disclaimer from the school that the certificate, whose authenticity they challenged, was not issued to Obaseki by the institution. It proceeded to uphold the March 18, 2021 judgment of the Court of Appeal, which earlier affirmed the January 9, 2021 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja upholding the authenticity of the first ...

Wike Backs Obaseki on N60 Billion New Notes Printing

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says the claim by his Edo state counterpart, Godwin Obaseki that the Nigerian Government printed about N60 billion to share to the federating units in March cannot be regarded as spurious. The governor has therefore challenged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to unequivocally declare if money was printed or not. Wike stated this while briefing journalists shortly after he attended a private function in Abuja on Sunday. He said, "Obaseki was in APC (All Progressives Congress), so he understands them. So, Obaseki couldn't have come from the blue to say they printed N60 billion. He knows them." Wike said it was regrettable that instead of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele to address the issue raised by Governor Obaseki...

APC Governors chide Obaseki over N60bn Printing Claim

Governors under the platform of the  All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday ruled Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State off the track over his recent allegation that the federal government printed N60 billion to augment the March revenue  allocation to states. The governors, in a statement in the name of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), said Obaseki’s statement “does not reflect the true position of things.” The PGF admitted that although there was a shortfall in gross statutory revenues by N43.34 billion compared to the previous month “an augmentation was made in the sum of N8.65 billion from the Forex Equalization Fund Account, which brought the total distributable revenue to N605.59 billion.” Giving a background to the practice of revenue sharing in the country, the fo...
