Abaribe Condemns NBC over Channels, AIT, Arise Television Fine

Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, on Tuesday requested the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to stop limiting the right of Nigerians to free speech. Abaribe who made the request in a statement by his Media Adviser, Uchenna Awom, in Abuja, while reacting to the imposition of fine of N3million each on the African Independent Television (AIT), Channels Television and Arise Television over their reportage of the Lekki Tollgate shootings in Lagos by the NBC, said the commission, by that unfortunate action, breached Section 39 of the 1999 Constitution. Breaking News: Senator Abaribe Arrested by DSS

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has been arrested by men of the Department of State Services (DSS). Senator Abaribe is the Senator representing Abia South in the upper house of the National Assembly. It is not yet clear why he was arrested but as at the time of filing this report, his home in Abuja has been cordoned off by officers of the DSS. It appears the men of the DSS are about to carry out a search of the residence. It will be recalled that the Senator is one of those that stood surety for Nnamdi Kanu, and had been instructed to produce him before the next hearing of his case.
