Pantami withdraws Radical Comments on Terrorists

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Isa Pantami has renounced his radical comments on terrorist groups including Taliban and Al-Qaeda. The Minister said he was young when he made the radical comments, adding he is mature and knows better. He spoke while answering questions during his daily Ramadan lecture at Annor Mosque in Abuja on Saturday. Customs Intercepts Contraband Goods Worth N786m in Kano, Jigawa

Officials of the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone ‘B,’ have intercepted contraband goods worth Duty Paid Value (DPV) of over N786 million in Kano/Jigawa axis. While displaying the intercepted items, the Coordinator of the Strike Force, Deputy Comptroller Osseini Olorukoba, said the seizures were made in the months of January, February and March. The seizures include two exotic vehicles, a N63m 2021 Mercedes Benz turbo 4Matic jeep. Customs said two suspects were arrested in connection to the smuggled goods. The suspects attempted to use a diplomatic plate number to trick Customs officers but ran out of luck, it was learnt. Olorukoba said they were arrested following intelligence reports. Polytechnic Lecturers begin Indefinite Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics has commenced an indefinite strike with effect from today. The union said this followed the failure of the government to address the sorry state of polytechnics and monotechnics and the expiration of the ultimatum issued since March 2020. The action is coming less than a week after resident doctors embarked on a nationwide strike over non-payment of allowances and other issues. MTN customers in Nigeria now have alternative electronic payment platforms to recharge their phones as the mobile network operator on Saturday announced that customers can recharge airtime through payment solutions platforms such as Flutterwave, Jumia Pay, OPay, Kuda, Carbon and BillsnPay. BREAKING: Afenifere Spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, is Dead

The National Publicity Secretary of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin is dead. According to a report by The Punch, he died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital after a brief illness. His wife, Mrs Joe Okei-Odumakin, confirmed this to newsmen on Saturday. The Afenifere spokesman died at LASUTH Covid Isolation Centre. Married to a fellow rights activist, Joe, in 1997, Odumakin’s voice was heard through the dark years of military despotism. Popular Araromi auto spare parts market in Agodi-Gate, Ibadan has been razed by a midnight fire. The areas most affected are the tyre and car engine sections of the market. The fire, which is still being battled by a combined team of firefighters and some traders, has led to the loss of goods valued at hundreds of millions. The fire was said to have started around 11 pm around the tyre section and spread to other parts of the nearby shops where trailer engines were sold. Sources said the fire was caused by a power surge, which was escalated by nylon used to wrap tyres. BREAKING: NAF fighter Jet loses Radar Contact in Borno, Whereabouts Unknown

A Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet involved in the anti-terror war against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province has lost radar contact in Borno State. NAF spokesman, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, in a statement on Thursday, said the incident happened on Wednesday evening. The statement was titled, ‘Nigerian Air Force Alpha-Jet Loses Radar Contact’. Gabkwet said though the whereabouts of the attack jet was unknown as of the time of filing this report, search and rescue efforts were ongoing. Rivers House of Assembly Confirms Second Most Senior Judge as Chief Judge

The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed Justice Simeon Amadi as the Chief Judge. He is the second most senior judge of the state High Court. Following a letter from Governor Nyesom Wike that sought Amadi’s confirmation and approval based on the National Judicial Council (NJC) recommendation. The Speaker, Ikwuinyi Owaji-Ibani, said the incumbent Chief Judge, Justice Adama Iyaye Laminkara, will retire on May 25. Part of the governor’s letter reads: “The NJC has recommended Simeon C.
