Nigerian Player Slumps and Dies on the Pitch

A Nigerian Player David Faramola Onyia, slumped and died while playing for Malaysian club – T-Team – over the weekend. Onyia who only joined the club this season had only played for about 3 minutes when he slumped. He was rushed to the hospital where he died about 30 minutes later.

It appears the player had suffered a heart attack on the pitch. His team mates say he was in very good health and they were surprised at his death. When the news of his death was brought about 60 minutes into the game, the game was abandoned.

Onyia was born on the June 5 1985 and he died on June 13 2015. He started his footballing career 2004 with Neftchi Baku in Azerbaijani where he was till 2007. He continued at FK Samarqand-Dinamo of Uzbek where he remained till 2011. He moved on to Bukhara (Buxoro) still in Uzbek and continued there for two years before moving to Neftchi FK in the Uzbek league.  His final move was in 2014 from Neftchi FK to T-Team where he was until his death.
