Super Falcons Vs USA

The list of Nigeria’s football woes increased with the Super Falcon’s loss to USA in the early hours of today June 17 2015. The Falcons needed a win in this match to be able to progress to the next round. This loss means they came out of the group with only one point, having previously played a 3 all draw with Sweden and lost 2:0 to Australia. USA and Australia now advance from.

The match remained goalless until the 45th minute when Abby Wambach’s volley broke the deadlock. Coming into the second half, the Super Falcons were unable to stage a come back. With just seven attempts at goal, with only a mere two being on target and another two blocked, the Nigerian team did not clearly posses what it takes to fight back.

The woes of the Nigerian team was compounded in 69th minute when Sarah NNodim got a second yellow card which automatically converts to a red card. Already a goal down, the Nigerian team now struggled with 10 men against an already superior USA team.

With this loss, Africa’s hope now lies solely with Cameroon who are through to the next round after defeating Switzerland 2:1. Cameroon will now face China on June 20. Cote D’Ivoire had already crashed out of the tournament with their 3:1 loss to Norway completing their three losses at the tournament.
