Super Falcons Vs Sweden

In a much anticipated match, Nigeria’s Super Falcons held Sweden to a three all draw. The Nigerian team were easily the better team in the first part of the game. The Swedish team took the lead through an unfortunate own goal conceded by Desire Oparanozie from a Swedish corner.

The Swedish team went on to add another goal again from a corner. The Nigerian forwards were a major threat to the Swedish team but could not really convert the threats to goals. Though Nigeria had a greater possession of the ball, the first half ended with Nigeria trailing by two goals.

Nigeria’s lot changed when Ngozi  Okobi (who was also the player of the match) scored Nigeria’s first goal in the 50th minute. Asisat Oshoala made it two all in the 53rd minute, setting the stage for a thrilling closing. The Swedish team took the lead again in the 60th minute and it looked like the Nigerian team was getting tired both physically and mentally. Ordega’s 87th minute goal brought life back into the Nigerian team but both teams now looked like they were satisfied with the 3 all draw.

The Nigerian team could easily have won this match if they had converted their chances better. It is hoped that their team play will improve as the games go on. The team had the hunger and skill to do a lot of damage. It is left to be seen if they will improve as the tournament progresses.
