Africa is represented by four teams. These are Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal. It is hoped that these countries will do Africa proud at this tournament. Ghana is in group B with Argentina, Panama and Austria. They have played their first game against Austria which they drew (1:1). Mali on the other hand recorded a surprise victory over favorites Mexico. The Mexican team was reduced to nine men after Bernal received a second yellow card resulting in a sending off and Gama received a straight red. Mali also had a man sent off when Maiga received a second yellow resulting in a sending off.

Senegal lost in their match against Portugal by three goals to nothing. With this result, Mali is the only African team as at yet to have recorded a victory.
