Yakubu Dogara

In another clear case of high level politicking, Honorable Yakubu Dogara has emerged the speaker of the House of Representatives ahead of the party’s anointed candidate Honorable Femi Gbajabiamila.

In a closely contested election Dogara won with 182 votes over Gbajabiamila’s 174 votes. This is looking more and more like tha APC is losing grip of the National Assembly. Earlier today, the APC’s anointed candidate for the Senate presidency lost to Senator Bukola Saraki with PDP’s Ike Ekweremadu triumphing over APC’s Akume to emerge Deputy Senate President of the 8th Assembly.

How will this affect the passage of bills in the house? Does President Buhari and the APC have the necessary cunning and indeed skill to bend this 8th Assembly to its will? Where does the acclaimed “Master Strategist” – Bola Ahmed Tinubu stand in all of this? All his candidates have lost both in the upper and lower house? Are his strategies failing or is it simply showing the playing the game of politics on the national level is a different ball game from state and regional politics?

These certainly are interesting times for Nigeria.
