Why I Shunned APC's Letter - Dogara

Honourable Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives has come out to give his reason for setting aside the instructions contained in the letter sent to him from the APC leadership. While speaking with former members of the house, Dogara noted that his hands were tied as a result of a pending court case.

He said that he was unable to carry out the instructions contained in the letter because 36 APC lawmakers from the North Central Zone had gone to court to seek redress as they accused the party of not observing the provisions of the constitution regarding federal character which clearly provides that the six principal officers of the house shall be evenly spread across the six geopolitical zones.

The party had instructed that the four remaining positions be filled as follows:

Majority leader – Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila (South-West)
Deputy Majority Leader – Honourable Ado Doguwa (North-West)
Chief Whip – Honourable Mohammed Monguno       (North-East)
Deputy Chief Whip – Honourable Pally Iriase    (South-South)

The house was disrupted and members went into a ‘free for all’ fight. Dogara has come out to condemn the occurrence, saying that it was inexcusable and unacceptable. The house did not reach a conclusion and was adjourned till July 21 2015.
