Nigeria: Tribunal Nullifies Rivers State Gubernatorial Election

The Rivers State electoral tribunal sitting in Abuja, today October 24 annulled the election of the Rivers State PDP gubernatorial candidate Nyesom Wike. Reacting to this judgement, the state PDP Chairman Chief Felix Obuah declared that Wike still remains the governor of the state since they were going to appeal the judgment of the tribunal.

According to him, the 2010 electoral act stipulates that a sitting governor remains the governor so long as an appeal is filed within 21 days of the judgement being given. One thing is certain and that is that this case is sure to go to the long haul.

The PDP clearly believes that the presidency and the APC have a hand in the judgement which they have classified as “injustice by the tribunal’’.

Nigerians will keep watching as the drama unfolds.
