Nigeria: State House Clinic to Get More than All 17 Nigerian Teaching Hostpitals for Capital Projects

The 2016 budget called the budget of change has continued to be the center of a lot of debate. One of the issues now causing Nigerian’s concern is the fact that the provision made for capital projects in the State House Medical Center in the 2016 budget is more than what the budget allocated for capital projects in the 17 teaching hospitals in Nigeria.

To put things in proper perspective, we must understand what exactly the State House Medical Center is. This is the medical facility setup in the state house to treat the president, vice president, their families and some of ther workers at the presidency. The number of possible patients have been put conservatively at 100. This is the State House Medical Center.

The teaching hospitals on the other hand are actually medical schools where doctors are trained. We are referring to teaching hospitals like Luth in Lagos, UNTH at Enugu, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Kaduna, UCH Ibadan, UBTH Benin, UCTH Ibadan and others. These hospitals attend to millions of Nigerians with the worst medical cases. Cases that other smaller hospitals and clinics around the country cannot handle are referred to the teaching hospitals.

With this clarification made, one can only wonder what parameters were used to determine the funds allocated to the state house medical center for capital projects and what was allocated to the teaching hospitals. Let us break the allocation down.

Lagos State University teaching Hospital (Luth) – N 212,539,245
University College Hospital Ibadan (UCH)           – N 230,904,795
Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital        – N 230,904,795
Univeristy Of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu – N 218,335,908
Univeristy Of Benin Teaching Hospital                 – N 212,886,502
Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital – N 162,622,221
University Of Ilorin Teaching Hospital                  – N 166,802,164
Jos University Teaching Hospital                           – N 228,717,880
University Of Port-harcourt Teaching Hospital   – N 169,498,392
University of Calabar Teaching Hospital               – N 201,082,446
University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital          – N 215,151,873
Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching hospital  – N 279,000,000
Aminu Kano University Teaching Hospital           – N 210,380,376
Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital    – N 166,188,931
University of Abuja Teaching Hospital                  – N 198,715,702
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching   – N 229,005,992
University Of Uyo Teaching Hospital                    – N 176,480,412

TOTAL                                         –  N3,509,217,634
State House Medica Center – N3,865,629,221
This is a difference of about N356,411,587

The implication of the above is that the State House Medical Center alone will be carrying out more capital projects than all 17 teaching hospitals listed above. Nigerians will love to know what these projects are and how they afffect the lives of Nigerians.

It is indeed sadening that despite these ridicuous amounts budgeted for the State House Medical Center, the president and other top government officials still fly abroad for routine medical checkups. Is this the budget of change?

If d burget 4 State House clinic is bigger dan Nigerian Teaching hospital burget, is bcus Nigerian Teaching hospitls are 2 operate as self dependants, self- reliants, The state of d burget will reduce rate of corruption & extravagant spending in those areas bcus they have little floating cash at hands.

One thing is to allocate and another thing is to receive. Yet these idiots will fly to London whenever they have headache! So what’s the money being used for? God punish them all for this misappropriation. May their lives be wasted as they ate wasting Nigeria’s resources

I dont trust these leaders as long as they still travel out of the country for medical treatments.. Why cant they equip hospitals here, they are deceiving themself.
