Nigeria: NASS Crises – Dogara and Gbajabiamila Factions Fight On

Dogara and Gbajabiamila factions fight on

There appears to be no end in sight to the crises currently rocking the NASS as the respective factions of Honourable Yakubu Dogara and Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila continue to fight on. The party had mandated Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the Speaker of the house in the last government and the current governor of Sokoto State to spear head the effort at ending the crises.

Tambuwal has met with the two factions without making much headway. While speaking Thursday Night of July 9 2015 on the NTA network news, the spokes persons for both factions tried to explain the reason for the impasse. Speaking on the issue, the spokesperson of the Dogara faction said that they had conceded some ground to the Gbajabiamila faction.

According to him, they had agreed to allow the house leader come from that faction on one condition. The condition was the candidate must not be from either the Southwest of the Northeast. Explaining further, he said that the reason for this condition was to allow for proper Federal character representation in the house.

The spokesperson for the Gbajabiamila on his part pointed out that their faction takes an exception to the issue of zoning coming up at this time. He noted that when the elections for the Senate President and Speaker of the house were to be held, the same people who are now calling for zoning, were totally against it. According to him, a couple of them threatened to ignore any zoning formula that was brought up. He then wondered why they were bringing the issue of zoning up now.

He continued by nothing that the President and Commander in Chief of the country is from the North. The Senate President also is from the North as is the Speaker of the House of Representatives. According to his argument, that these three key positions all are from the North simply makes nonsense of the issue of zoning that the Dogara faction are trying to bring up now.

He made the position of the Gbajabiamila group clear. They were standing by the party’s recommendations. According to him, they believe in Party supremacy. Since the idea of zoning was jettisoned at the beginning, it should not be brought up now.

Responding to the position of the Gbajabiamila faction, the representative of the Dogara factions said “If Gbaja’s group does not accept, the house will dissolve to its caucuses and hold elections there.” He further said that the Gbajabiamila led faction should stop deceiving Nigerians. He noted that the letter that led to the current crises did not come from the party leadership but from a few leaders of the party. He said it did not come from the National Working Committee of the party.

Can this matter be resolved anytime soon? With both factions holding fast and not shifting grounds for each other, the fight might ones again be taken to the floor of the house where the members may once again engage in fisticuffs and general acts of indiscipline.

Mordi Chinedum no be only you tire. It goes to show everyone that these people went their for themselves and themselves alone. All the talk about change was a simple facade. They said PDP ruined the nation. At this rate – less than 2 months – only God knows where they will leave Nigeria. We must pray seriously for help from above oh!

Uncle Tonee Enenmor, the plummeting no be small thing oh! The Central Bank is also making it difficult to do some international transactions without first having to source the dollar amount. I was forced to do a transaction two days ago at N235 to the dollar. Meanwhile, the empty treasury is still churning out billions of naira lol!
