In a rather surprising move, the Kano state government on Saturday announced the extension of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise to Sunday. Announcing this on Saturday, Dr Ali Makoda the state Commissioner for Environment said the population of Kano and the raining season necessitated the extension. This extension according to him, will enable residents of the state properly clean their environment.

This announcement has generated several reactions. Most of the reactions come from the Christian community who worship on Sundays. With this new law, they can no longer attend their services in the morning since a no movement order usually accompanies the environmental sanitation exercise.

As of now, no one is exempt from this order aside from the usual persons rendering essential services. We shall await the response of the Christian community in Kano State.
