Nigeria: I Won't Resign Even If Boko Haram Is Not Defeated By December - Buhari

President Buhari has made it clear that he has no intention of resigning should his December deadline for the defeat of Boko Haram not be met. While speaking on Al Jazeera he said “I will be determined to stay and fight it out.”

It will be recalled that President Buhari had during his campaign promised to defeat Boko haram within two months of taking office and rescuing the kidnapped Chibok girls. Immediately he took office, the attacks by the Boko haram sect escalated and a new deadline was given after the appointment of the new service chiefs.

The Boko haram have been wrecking havoc with hundreds of lives lost. In the midst of all these mayhem, the military has kept on releasing statements given the impression that they are winning the war. With Buhari’s latest statement, it is clear that the administration is already making allowances for another failure.

President Buhari said “As soon as the rainy season comes, which is by the end of the year, Boko Haram will virtually be out of their main stronghold and that will be the end of it. Attacks by Boko Haram on townships, on military installations, will certainly stop.”

Mr President has presented an image of confusion. One moment he is talking about giving Boko Haram a bloody nose and the next he is talking about negotiating with them. On the issue of negotiating with the Boko haram sect he said, “They (Boko Haram) have to prove to us that they (Chibok grils) are alive, they are well, and then we can negotiate with them.”

Nigerians want a fulfillment of the numerous promises made by President Buhari and the APC. President Buhari was a vocal critic of the last administration regarding almost every issue especially in the way the fight against Boko Haram was handled. he now appears to be doing even worse especially since Nigerians expected much more from him being a retired general himself.

December is around the corner and Nigerians seriously hope this deadline will be met.
