Dasuki released from house arrest

Mr Sambo Dasuki who was until Monday July 13 2015 the National Security Adviser has finally regained some form of freedom. Dasuki’s home was on Thursday evening besieged by operatives of the DSS. He was kept under house arrest while being quizzed. Detained with him was Colonel Bello Fadile, a friend came to visit him and was there when the operatives arrived.

Throughout the period, no one was allowed access into the house. Notable among those who were denied access to the house is Mr Olisah Metu, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP. Mr Metu described the act as unconstitutional.

After his release on Friday July 17 2015  evening, Dasuki said he was saddened that he was not allowed to participate in the the religious activities to mark the end of the Muslim fast. He has vowed to seek redress for the actions of the operatives of the DSS by suing for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights in a court of law.

When the new head of the DSS Mr Lawal Daura was contacted about the operation, he denied knowledge of any such operation. His response was “I am not aware of any siege. What we are doing is celebrating Sallah and not carrying out any siege or house arrest.”

There are reports that not only was siege laid on Dasuki’ Abuja residence, but that his father’s residence in Sokoto also received same treatment. As occupants were held hostage and a search conducted throughout the premises. It was also reported that Dasuki’s passports have been seized to prevent him from leaving to country.

It is not clear what charges are being leveled against him for now. It is hoped that in the next few days, more light will be thrown on the matter by the relevant authorities.
