Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas from Cross Rivers state replaces Usman Jibrin as Chief of Naval Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar from Bauchi state replaces Adesola Amosu as Chief of Air Staff while Major-General Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin frome Ekiti state replaces Alex Badeh as Chief of Defence Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence is also replaced by Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan.

Former National Security Adviser Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd) is now replaced by Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd) from Borno state. With these new appointments, Nigerians hope that the military will once again begin to record significant successes in the fight against Boko Haram and other forms of insecurity.
