Bomb explosion at Port Harcourt

The city of Port Harcourt in Rivers State of Nigeria experienced a bomb explosion on Thursday July 9 2015. The explosion which occurred close to a Federal high court recorded no casualties and no damages have been announced.

As at the time of this publication, no one knows for sure who was responsible for the explosion and what the target was. The are however speculations that the explosion was meant to disrupt the court proceedings that was taking place at the federal high court there.

The governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike said “I think they were trying to disrupt the result … the high court decided that the election was illegal.” It will be recalled that the court was to rule on the case before it regarding the legality of the local government council elections conducted by the former governor Rotimi Ameachi. The court ruled that the elections were illegal since there was a court order preventing it from holding.

Governor Rotimi Ameachi had some days to the end of his tenure conducted local government election in which all the local government areas were won by the APC since the PDP boycotted the elections.
