Lagos Assembly Worries over Entry of Unchecked Foreign Nationals into the State

Lagos State House of Assembly has expressed dissatisfaction over the unchecked migration of foreign nationals into the State, expressing security concern and the need to arrest the situation immediately.
Hon. Agunbiade reiterated that recently vehicles used to convey cows to Lagos are now utilized to migrate up to fifty people into the State on regular basis without any check by security agencies. He expressed fear over this trend because instruments of mass destruction and guns could also be brought into the State in such an unfiltered manner.
According to him, “Our infrastructures are overstretching already and the mass arrivals will not help matters”.
The Majority Leader expressed that there was need to seek for a special status for Lagos to compensate for the overstretch of infrastructure as the former Capital of Nigeria.
Hon. Sanai Agunbiade also suggested the need for State Police, which according to him is very essential to curb security issues that may emanate from the exploding population of Lagos State.
Hon. Hakeem Shokunle stressed that the migration of bike men into Lagos State is becoming a threat to security in the State. He advised that the Lagos State Government should ensure the State police force is fully armed.
Hon. Ali Macaulay suggests that the Government should ensure that every migrants into the State comply and adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the State. She further advised the Government to consider the establishment of State police in order to reduce the rate of unemployment in the State.
Hon. Tobun Abiodun opined “Once the immigrants get to Lagos through illegal means, they should be sent back to their State or Country and those that are ready to add to the value of Lagos are welcome not those that want to destroy Lagos.” ​
The Members however, commend the Governor of the State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for acquiring new patrol vans and bikes for The Rapid Response Squad.
To this end, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa appealed to the Federal Government to grant Lagos State Special Status as its population is high compared to other States in the country.
He also call on the State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take necessary measures on security in the State.
