Fuel Scarcity: PDP Senators Move to Summon Petroleum Minister, Buhari

With the fuel scarcity currently biting hard on Nigerians, someone has to be held responsible. The PDP senators recently made a move to get the upper house to summon the Minister of Petroleum who also happens to be the President to explain why the fuel scarcity has lingered.

Nigerians are certainly not finding the situation funny at all. The power situation is horrible to say the least and some of the few petrol stations that sell fuel sporadically, refuse to sell to buyers who want to buy into rubber cans for their generators at home.

It is a normal practice for the Senate to summon a minister whose ministry is seen to be having issues. Since President Buhari saw it fit to name himself minister of petroleum, should he not also play the role to the full? Why can’t the Senate summon him to explain the continued scarcity?

According to the APC Senators, despite the fact the Mr President has also chosen to double as the minister for petroleum, he should still be accorded respect as the commander in chief and so cannot just be invited to the Senate. It was however suggested that instead of inviting the President, the minister of state for that ministry Dr Ibe Kachukwu should rather be invited to explain the situation.

The motion as to whether or not to invite Mr President was put to a voice vote and the APC senators who were in the majority won. Though this move has been thwarted, it has at least passed on a message to President Buhari that being a minister is more than noise making. He has to do the job and do it really well.

There is no doubt that the continued fuel scarcity is bringing undue hardship to Nigerians and making nonsense of all the claims, grandstanding and promises of the APC led government. So far, they appear to have delivered on absolutely nothing of all they promised the people of Nigeria. Like Nigerians now ask – is this the change we voted for?

Its like the APC is a cult where their members don’t do wrong. What’s wrong inviting d petroleum minister to tell us what’s happening in his ministry? I belong to no party cos of sentimental politics and that of hate and abuses. so if anything wrong is happening in the transport ministry would they not invite to question?

Its so disheartening, to see the write up of some of our so called elite in d social media. Buhari is the President of Nigeria and not APC take the right. Things are going in the wrong direction, we don’t need a soothsayer to tell us. What’s wrong summoning the petroleum minister to tell us what’s happening in his ministry? Its so annoying that u APC members don’t see anything wrong with the system, u still attribute to GEJ who we voted out over 6 months ago. The opposition party act as checks and balances so that the ruling party… Read more »
