Ekiti, Nigeria: Aregbesola Pays Contractor Rather Than State Workers

The Osun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party has attacked Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for abandoning the state workers who are being owed about 9 months salary and rather choosing to pay a road contractor.

According to reports, Osun state got a N35 billion bailout fund from the Federal government. From this sum, Aregbesola is said to have approved N20 billion to pay a road contractor handling the Osogbo Ring Road project.

Responding to this allegation, the APC said that they had decided not to respond to the PDP’s unsubstantiated claims because they had become so frivolous. While speaking for the APC, Mr Kunle Oyatomi said “The banks the PDP mentioned are there for the public to vet towards establishing facts or fallacies of the PDP. Also relevant institutions and officials abound in Osogbo where information flow freely. We have had enough of this irresponsibility.”

The PDP responded by saying that “We have it on good authority that the payment was effected last week Thursday and we have noticed that the contractor returned to site within 24 hours as requested by the governor.”

According to the PDP the N35,billion bailout fund was lodged in two banks. The funds in one bank was fixed, while the funds in the second bank was recalled to pay the contractor.

The PDP went further to say “much as we believe the road project is ideal, we wonder why an inflated road contract awarded at N1 billion per kilometre has suddenly become the priority of Governor Aregbesola at this particular period of nine months unpaid salary if not because of some underhand deals to siphon funds and short-change the people of Osun State.

This perhaps is the reason why the governor said he would only pay half of March salaries at a meeting he held with workers last week.“

The PDP has therefore brought this to the notice of the President. They said “President Muhammadu Buhari to wade into the looming crisis in the state if governor Aregbesola continues to deny Osun workers their right to salary having received the bail out fund from CBN three weeks ago even without meeting the condition set for him to submit the resolution of the State Executive Council because he does not have an exco 10 months into his second term.”

It will be recalled that President Buhari had last week told the states that the funds were meant for salaries owed their workers. Responding to this statement, some states had pointed out that the Federal government was not in a position to tell them how to use the funds as they were in the best position to determine how best to utilize these funds.

With all the denials by the APC led state governemnt and fact that the state workers still remain unpaid, one is forced to ask – WHERE IS THE N35 BILLION BAILOUT FUND?

This post ended with the question “where is the N35b bail out fund?”. Why ask when you have already stated where it is. And if you don’t know where it is must you concoct a story around it? The State government met with workers, fashioned out a payment schedule and same is being followed up without the workers complaining.

I wonder why people spread lies and some are so gullible to believe them. Shame on them. The steps taken by Osun State Government are already in the public domain. Only fools will allow themselves to be deceived.
