Boko Haram: Cameroon Deports About 12,000 Nigerians

In a bid to stem the increased violent attacks attributed to the Boko Haram sect in Cameroon, the authorities have deported about 12,000 Nigerians. These Nigerians who are mainly from the Northern part of the country plagued by the Boko Haram sect, had gone to Cameroon to escape the onslaught of the sect. Their presence in Cameroon has now been construed as a security risk to Cameroon and Cameroonians hence their deportation.

According to Cameroonian authorities, Boko Haram fighters were coming into Cameroon disguised as refugees. This has called for the rounding up of all refugees without proper documentation. This decision was made after two females who were in the Minawao refugee camp in far North of Cameroon  were arrested with explosive devices in their luggage.

According to the UN, the camp which had about 30,000 displaced persons as at the ending of 2014, now has over 44,000 persons with about 100 new persons registering daily.
