Looking at Urban and the success he has achieved today, it will be difficult for the average fan to picture him as a young boy trying to make his mark in the music industry. Urban is clearly not a stranger to music and performance. From the early age of 10 he was already performing at country shows in his home country New Zealand. He took part in a number of competitions including the talent show New Faces hosted by the Australian Television. All through his growing up years, he was actively doing what he loves and knows to do best. His professional career did not fully take off until 1990 when he was signed on by EMI in Australia.

Urban moved to the U.S in 1993 and got very actively involved in gigs around the country music circuits. In 1997, he formed a band – The Ranch – and they went ahead to release an album which was self-titled under Capitol Records Nashville. By 1999, Urban was set to go solo and he did with the release of his debut album in the U.S. This album was also self-titled. His efforts soon saw him reaching the top 10 in the U.S country charts, making him the first New Zealand Male performer to achieve this feat. From this point on, we can safely use the cliché – “the rest is history.”

Urban’s success is not limited to album sales and chart topping hits. He is now regarded as an influential and capable musician who can be entrusted with the future of up and coming musicians. This is clear from the roles he was given to be a coach and mentor on The Voice (Australian version) where he had ample opportunity to impart his knowledge on his wards. In the same vein, he was made a judge on American Idol a platform which provided him an opportunity to influence younger musicians.

With Keith Urban’s receipt of these two CMT Music Awards nominations, it is clear that he is still going on strong. All of his fans join the CMT Music Awards family as they celebrate the leaders in the country music industry one of whom obviously is the beloved Keith Urban.
