Sao Tome vs Nigeria: Nigeria Wins by 10 Goals

In an amazing result, the Sao Tome vs Nigeria match ended in a huge 10 goals to nil score in favour of Nigeria. Though the Nigerian Super Eagles were indeed expected to win, no one envisaged such a huge margin. The team, which appeared to be struggling to find its footing under the new coach,  Jose Peseiro had earlier struggled to win Sierra Lone by 2 goals to 1 in Nigeria. Nigerians were therefore not sure what to expect. The flood gates was opened in the 9th minute by Victor Osimhen who nodded in from a well worked cross from the left flank by Moses Simon. In the 28th minute, Osimhen reciprocated the earlier assist from Moses Simon when he steered a cross from Ola Aina towards Simon who simply tapped it in for the second goal. Terrem Moffi concluded the first half goals with...

The East African nation expected that their ban would be lifted two weeks before their first Nations Cup qualifier if they were to take part in the 2023 campaign. However, as of the Saturday, May 21 deadline, the ban was still active. Focus On World Cup Qualifier Against Ghana – Eguavoen Urges Eagles

Austin Eguavoen has urged the Super Eagles players to put the disappointment of the AFCON 2021 behind them and focus on the 2022 World Cup qualifier against Ghana in March. After a brilliant start to the ongoing AFCON in Cameroon, the Eagles were shocked 1-0 by Tunisia in the round of 16. The Eagles had a perfect record in the group stage after winning all their three games and went into the knockout tie against the North Africans as favourites. However, a Youssef Msakni’s second half goal was enough to seal victory for the Carthage Eagles. And speaking to the players and backroom staff before the team left departed Cameroon, Eguavoen thanked everybody for their contributions and urged them to put the disappointment aside and focus on the challenges ahead. “It is a bitter pill to swal...

Losing Is Part Of The Game By Femi Adesina

Soccer-loving Nigerians were heartbroken last Sunday when the Super Eagles of Nigeria could not fly higher than the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in the second round match of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament holding in Cameroon. Nigerians were full of expectations. The Super Eagles players were confident. President Muhammadu Buhari had done what the father of the nation should do, engaging in a video conference earlier in the day to ginger the players. Alas, Nigeria lost the game by a lone goal, and exited the tournament. Nobody likes to lose in a keen contest, whether political, economic, domestic, professional, or in sports. Winning is exhilarating, gives a feel-good sensation, and generally sends the adrenaline pumping. But you know what? Losing is part of the gam...

Okoye, Iwobi Receive Death Threats After Eagles AFCON Exit

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye and midfielder, Alex Iwobi, were subjected to cyberbullying by fans, including death threats, after Nigeria’s exit from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon on Sunday following a 1-0 defeat to Tunisia. Youssef Msakni scored the only goal of the encounter with a strike from 25 yards out to fire Tunisia to the last eight and break Nigerian hearts. Some fans felt Okoye should have saved Msakni’s effort, while Iwobi was sent off for a foul after just six minutes on the pitch for what was deemed to be a dangerous tackle. Iwobi had been sent into the game in the 59th minute for Kelechi Iheanacho to help change the complexity of the game, but his sending off further piled pressure on the midfield and the defence.
