IPOB Alleges House-to-House Abduction, Killing of South-East Youths

The Indigenous People of Biafra have accused security operatives of house-to-house abduction and killing of youths in the South-East. While denying any involvement in the killing of 128 security personnel in Imo State as alleged, the secessionist group said neither IPOB nor its security outfit, Eastern Security Network, had been involved in any attack on security personnel in Imo or any part of the country. Nigeria May Conduct Census Before 2023 — National Population Commission

The National Population Commission has said it may conduct a population census in 2022, once it completes its process of demarcation and administering questionnaire, adding that the exercise is subject to approval from the President. This was disclosed to newsmen on Tuesday during a press conference on the commencement of fieldwork for the first pre-test for population and housing census. Telecoms operators said they have received instructions from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to effect suspension of services of micro blogging platform Twitter. The carriers, acting under the aegis of Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), said they have conducted assessment of the request according to international best practices. FG Suspends Twitter Operations in Nigeria

The Federal Government has suspended indefinitely the operations of the micro blogging and social networking service, Twitter in Nigeria. Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed announced the suspension in a statement in Abuja on Friday. The Minister cited the persistent use of the platform for activities capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence. He said the Federal Government had also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in the country. The statement was released by Mr Segun Adeyemi, Special Assistant to the President (Media) Office of the Minister. (NAN)

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has imposed night curfew on  the borders Rivers shares with Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Imo states, following recent attacks and killings of security operatives  by  gunmen. No COVID-19 Deaths Recorded in Nine Days – NCDC

The Nigerian Center for Disease Control reported zero COVID-19-related deaths for the ninth consecutive day as the nation’s fatality toll remains 2,061. The NCDC disclosed this on its official Twitter handle on Tuesday. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the country last registered a COVID-19-related death on April 11. It reports that aside from April 11, the number of reported deaths in week 14, which was April 6, was two from two states. NAN reports that cumulatively since the outbreak began in week 9, 2020, there have been reported 2,061 deaths with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 1.3 per cent.
