Nigeria: Fuel Subsidy Has Been Removed. Fuel to Now Sell For N145

The long drawn game between the NNPC and and fuel scarcity may have finally come to a head as the Federal government has now officially removed fuel subsidy. According to news reaching us, NNPC has said that marketers can now bring in fuel and sell at whatever price they wish so long as it does not exceed N145 per liter which is the bench mark.

Many Nigerians are not even aware that subsidies were still being paid. There has been so much haziness surrounding the issue of subsidy and fuel scarcity. Will Nigerians accept this or will there be another “Occupy Nigeria?”

We shall keep watching to know how it all pans out. Many have said that the 2012 Occupy Nigeria was political. The same thing that resulted in the campaign is here again under even worse conditions. If there is no Occupy Nigeria this time, the earlier accusation will appear to have some credence.

We shall keep you posted of developments in this regards.

THERE WAS NO SUBSIDY IN THE FIRST PLACE. HOW WILL YOU REMOVE WHAT DOES NOT EXIST. ONLY PMS MARKETERS HAVE BEEN FORCED TO IMPORT FUEL AT DOLLAR BLACK MARKET RATE AND NOT FROM THE CENTRAL BANK. THAT IS WHY IT AMOUNTS TO THE PRESENT PRICE REGIME.
