News: FG to Remove Fuel Subsidy in 2016

The federal government has finally announced that it will be removing the contentious fuel subsidy by 2016. It will be recalled that former president Goodluck Jonathan attempted to remove this subsidy in 2012 but met with very strong resistance.

News: FG to Remove Fuel Subsidy in 2016 Nigerians staged one of the strongest protest in  recent times. The popular slogan was “Occupy  Nigeria.”  This protest was strongly supported by  many top members of the APC especially the Vice  President  Professor Osinbajo.

Will there be another “Occupy Nigeria” or will  Nigerians accept the subsidy removal? Next year is  around the corner so we will see how Nigerians will  react to the subsidy removal. We will also see if the FG really has a plan or is just bowing to pressures from the world bank because those are conditions given for them to receive any loans.

The federal government has also forewarned Nigerians to tighten their belts for a hard time in 2016. All the reasons given for this gloomy forecast have to do with the global drop in the price of crude oil. This is truly sad because a lot of lip service is being paid to the diversification of the economy.

If the FG really wants to diversify the economy, why are there plans to spend a whooping N39.4 billion on oil exploration in the north. What about Agriculture which was the main revenue earner of the north?
