Omar al'Bashir

President Omar al’Bashir of Sudan was barred from leaving South Africa pending the ruling of a South African court regarding his outstanding arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC). News reaching us has it that al’Bashir may have escaped as his jet was seen taking off from an Army base in Waterkloof South Africa.

There is currently no report to confirm or refute this claim. If he really has escaped, then some members of the AU will have been appeased, while the ICC and the international community will frown seriously on South Africa.

Prior to the AU Summit holding in South Africa, the South African government through its Minister of International Affairs had on the 5th of June signed a document granting diplomatic immunity to every leader attending the AU summit of which al’Bashir was one.

We shall keep you posted on what develops as more information reaches us.
