Breaking: Riyad Mahrez Wins 25th Edition of The African Footballer of The Year

Algerian star Riyad Mahrez who plays for Leicester City, current champions of the English Premier League has just won the 2016/2017 African Footballer of the Year. He won ahead of last winner Gabon and Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Senegal and Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.

The event held at the International Conference Center Abuja, Nigeria and the other awards that were presented are:

African Player of the Year – Based in Africa: Denis Onyango
Referee of the Year: Bakary Papa Gassama

2016 Youth Player of the Year: Alex Iwobi
2016 Most Promising Player of the Year: Kelechi Iheanacho
Club of the Year: Memelodi Sundowns
Women’s National Team of the Year: Nigeria
National Team of the Year: Uganda
