  • Arrest one; confiscate ten vehicles brought by vandals

What would have been a major oil theft was averted last weekend when local vigilante guards working under King Lion Security prevented a team of vandals numbering about 30 from siphoning oil at Abekoko, Ipara, Remo North area of Ogun State.

Africannewstoday.com gathered the team of vandals numbering about 30 had succeeded in puncturing the NNPC pipeline and were scooping the contents into drums and Jerry cans when the brave vigilante guards swooped on them.

Further investigations revealed that the pipeline vandals on sighting the vigilante guards opened fire on them before escaping into the bush and the guards succeeded in arresting one of the vandals.

Africannewstoday.com gathered that about ten vehicles brought by the vandals were also confiscated by the local vigilante guards and handed them over to Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

While speaking to Africannewstoday.com on the success recorded by the local vigilante guards, the South  West Coordinator of the vigilante guards who is also the Chief Executive Officer of King Lion Security,  Aminu Joshua said that his men foiled a major oil heist that would have been a big blow to distribution of  the content.

When asked how his men were able to foil the plan of the vandals, Joshua said his men had in the past prevented pipeline vandalism and have made many arrests and which suspects were handed over to police.

“Our men who were on patrol first sighted the unusual vehicular movement at about 10pm on Friday at Abekoko, Ipara, Remo North area of Ogun state. They informed other branches and we mobilized our guards who swooped on the vandals who were already scooping the content. On sighting our guards they opened fire and by the time they discovered that we were many they ran into the forest and we were able to arrest one and also prevented them from making away with their vehicles, drums and hundreds of Jerry cans they brought for operation.”

He added: “We have recorded huge success in combating pipeline vandalism in Southwest since we started our operation. This very one is a huge one and I salute the courage of my men who made this possible.

Further investigation by Africannewstoday.com revealed the local vigilante guards have been doing a good job preventing pipeline vandals from sabotaging the country’s economy.

However, we gathered that the welfare package of the local vigilante guards saddled with protecting the pipelines is nothing to write home.

Many we gathered have lost their lives in the hands of pipeline vandals.
