Editorial: Why Has Buhari Not Responded to IBB's Allegations?

President Buhari rode into power with a promise to “give corruption a bloody nose.” Almost 7 months after, Nigerians are still hopeful that corruption will be dealt this highly expected “bloody nose.” A few things however are a source of concern to Nigerians and the expected fight against corruption. Former president Ibrahim Babangida released a statement where he said some disturbing things about President Buhari. Why has Buhari not responded to these allegation by IBB?

IBB in a press release by his media Adviser Prince Kassim Afegbua, IBB said “On General Buhari, it is not in IBB’s tradition to take up issues with his colleague former president. But, for the purpose of the record, we are conversant with General Buhari’s so-called holier-than-thou-attitude. He is a one-time minister of petroleum and we have good records of his tenure.

Secondly, he also presided over Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) which records we also have. We challenge him to come out in clean hands in those two portfolios he headed. Or, we will help him to expose his records of performance during those periods. Those who live in glass houses do not throw stones. General Buhari should be properly guided.”

This statement insinuates very clearly that President Buhari himself has questions to answer. By alluding to Buhari’s time as Petroleum Minister under Obasanjo in 1977 and PTF under Abacha, IBB has thrown a challenge to President Buhari. For the fight against corruption to be possible, Buhari must respond to these open challenge and clear his name.

It is note worthy that no past General is being probed or called to question. OBJ and the proven Halliburton scandal case is still an open secret. IBB and the gulf war windfall is still an open secret. President Buhari must remember that anyone who comes to equity must come with clean hands.

IBB made the allegation before Dasuki’s travails began, so don’t connect them together. The allegation is too weighty to be ignored. Remember that PMB threatened to probe IBB administration, the allegation sent PMB retreating his step.

Time has come for president buhari to put this useless enemy of Nigerian state where he rightly belongs I have been expecting s response from ibb ever since the travails of dasuki started even the zaria crisis I have the sneaking feeling that he could have instigated it.Methinks finally the gods are ready to judge ibb.

If PMB cannot respond to mischief, why not the alligators/lizards (I mean those liars) produce the evidence?

.What is the problem IBB.is having? The man should respect himself so as not to cause problems for the country . Afterwards every body knows him well.

This is what I call media rhetorics because nothing is said in here… empty …sounds. I challenge you to bring facts and figures against PMB,which I doubt if you can. I never blaimed IBB for this empty statements credited to him but the propagandist….unpopular elements seeking attention
