Demolition of Sodom and Gomorrah

Residents of the slum area called Sodom and Gomorrah in Ghana have clashed with the police over the demolition of their homes. This area is home to over 50,000 people who will be rendered homeless should their homes be destroyed.

The government had swung into action following the flooding that claimed almost 200 lives. The demolition of the slum area was part of government’s move to forestall a re-occurrence of such an incidents. The government blamed the blockage of the drainage system that would have channeled the water to the sea for the flooding and some of these shacks were doing just that.

Not wanting to lose their homes, the residents of this slum engaged in a fight with the police to prevent the further destruction of their homes. It is a waiting game to see what the government will say or do about this protest.
